Overview
The Institute of European Studies welcomes scholars from around the world who wish to conduct independent research in the field of European Studies (in the broadest sense), with the intent to foster collaboration, exchange, and knowledge-sharing.
Each year, the Institute is pleased to host a select number of Visiting Researchers on a competitive basis.
Visiting Researchers are expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the Institute by attending lectures and conferences, interacting with faculty and students, and supporting the work of other scholars.
Visiting Researcher appointments are temporary (3-12 months) and fall into two categories:
Visiting Scholars |
Visiting Student Researchers |
For academic researchers and faculty who wish to conduct independent research on the Berkeley campus.
|
For currently enrolled Masters and PhD students who participate in exchange agreements with our Student Exchange Partners. PhD students from other institutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis, pending approval by the IES Director.
|
NOTE: Previous and current University of California staff and faculty, as well as all current UC students, are ineligible for Visiting Researcher status.
No other position, including positions in other UC Berkeley departments, whether paid or unpaid, can be held at the same time as an IES Visiting Researcher appointment, without approval by the Institute’s Director. Additionally, payments of any kind for lectures or services at other institutions must be approved ahead of time by the Director.
